Yeah! Sparklers, we couldn't pop big fireworks due to a drought. I am just glad the kids had fun hanging out with our sparklers and our snack set up. Get ready for it. Next you will see hubby showing me his angry, surprised and silly face.

Now, you know I said we could not pop large fireworks but it didnt stop some people.

I was taking random pics little did I know that I had caught Duran destroying some fireworks.

Then this is when we noticed.

What can I say?

I have to explain this pic. Dont worry she doesnt drink the beer. She just loves the salt. Its just disturbing and funny at the same time. My son did not spend most of the holiday season with us. Instead he went on a cruise to Cozemel, Mexico w/ his girlfriend, I mean friend wait girlfriend. My baby is all grown up.

Family and Food

This picture was taken in late 1945 or early 1946. It is of my grandmother Irene, my uncle Rogelio and my aunt Amy the baby. As my aunt battles with cancer it was so heart warming to see and hear, that family & friends came to visit from near and far. I have been flooded with so many memories of my mom. That I am grateful to have such amazing female role models in my life. To see how many lives on person can touch in a positive way is inspiring.

I brought photo albums to reminisce. Duran had enjoyed showing off photos of his older brother and sisters to other relatives.

Before we headed out we ate lunch at Mariscos El Pescador. translation "Seafood The Fisherman" Bill and I, Oh wait and Duran shared a small Mexican shrimp cocktail. Let me explain the difference in a this cocktail it is filled with shrimp (15+), cilantro and a few slices of avocado on top. In other places I will not mention you usually get 4 to 5 shrimp on the rim of the dish. I don't consider that a cocktail. http://mariscoselpescador.com/

We also shared a small bowl of Caldo de Mariscos (seafood soup). It had fish, crab, octopus, shrimp and rice. OMG! it was my fav.

Then I ordered what translates as the fishermans platter. Hold on to your..... It had rice, steamed veg, a roll, grilled fish, fried fish, grilled shrimp, fried shrimp, breaded fried oysters, steamed crab meat and my favorite frog legs. This platter was for one person. WHAT! They make them bigger. Guess how much the platter was? ($14.99) We tried to eat it but we didnt even make a dent in it. The rest came home with us.

I tried to take a pic of the menu sorry it didnt come out that well the glare from the sun was horrible.

After our meal a last photo. Duran could see the boat while we ate. I am looking forward to going back in Feb. To see family, eat good food and enjoy the culture.

Reflection

We made a short trip back to my home town. Visited with loved ones I had not seen in a long time. Looking thru photo albums of past times. Hoping for health and happiness for the future.

Without loss we can not truly appreciate life. As Duran lays flowers at my mothers tombstone, I am filled with sadness that he will never know her the way my other children do but then I pause and think he will. Thru the stories we tell each other, photos and thru me. She lives on every time she is thought of.

Part of my heart will always be in my hometown.

The Amazing Blue Angels!

This years airshow was amazing. We decided not to go on base to see the show. Instead we watched the show the way alot of Tailgaters do. We picked up some subs and packed some soda and ice in a cooler. Threw the folding chairs in the Vue and headed out to find the perfect spot. We ended up right outside the Randolph gate on 1604. Both sides of Loop 1604 was packed with tailgaters it went on for at least 1/2 a mile. It was Awesome!

Poor Duran was still recovering from the two parties from the night before.

Hubby was so excited he was jumping for joy. Ok, Ok, He was pretending to be an airplane. lol

No words needed.

Duran found it a bit loud. I have to admit they did fly really low and were so loud when they flew over it scared the %#@& out of me.

Who needs toys when there are rocks, sticks and dirt.

I love to see my Hubby enjoying the airshow.

You guessed it Duran liked the airshow so much, he wanted to be one.

Ok, lets talk cost. Black Swan $12 (Tiara $2, feathers $2 I used a blouse she had for her top, fabric for tutu $3, tights $4 and ribbon for shoes $1)

Corpse Bride $14 (dress bought on craigslist for $4, fabric $3, flowers for veil and bouquet $3 at the dollar store we had black spray paint, Hair color spray $4, shoes and makeup we already had.

Yes I finally got a picture of the whole family together. I might just blow it up and make it a family portrait.

Halloween Costumes

Halloween is always been Hubbys favorite time of the year. Last year we made Jack and Sally pumpkins.

Duran asked to be a ladybug last year. His costume cost me a total of $12 to make and or buy.

Tryni also went as a ladybug. Her costume cost me $5. Her wings were made out of car shades we already had. Just changed the fabric. Taty sewed her own costume out of scrap fabric. Her costume cost $5 bucks to plus $17 for Jack.

In 09' we made this simple pumpkin.

How they love to pose for pictures. Raymond costume cost me a total of $0 dollars to make.

This year there was a theme. Duran dressed up as a little devil. Costume cost $4 for fabric. Tryni and Taty were dark angels. There costume was made of wire hangers, fabric and ribbon. Cost for both $15.

Durans pitch fork added $4 dollars to his total.

Can't wait to post this years costumes. Have a great Halloween.

Waiting for the rain

Finally Rain, with all the devastation due to the drought the sight of rain clouds is such a welcomed sight. With the threat of stage 3 water restrictions right at our heels everyone holds their breath and hope its a massive down pour.

We did get a few inches of rain enough to keep us in stage 2 for a while longer.

Taty took this pic after many tries before. The ones before Hubby kept blinking and at one point he tried to keep his eyes open really wide which caused us to crack up.

My family and I love to get our cakes and cupcakes for here. I must admit cakes are made by my friend Jessica. My kids including my husband love that we are the guinea pigs to her creations.


This cake you might remember it was the cake made for my son and his friends high school graduation. Couldn't decide what flavor so it was chocolate and vanilla.

This cake was a big hit. Cakes and even cupcakes are made in a great variety of flavors. Chocolate, butter, Strawberry, banana, red velvet and plain vanilla. Frosting is regular buttercream, choc buttercream, strawberry buttercream, cream cheese, white frosting.

This one was made for a big poker fan. If you can imagine it she can make it.

Simple sheet cakes are also made.

If you have a themed party or just for fun.

Who said dinosaurs can't cute and tasty.

Our animal family

Ok I thought I would give you a little info in our ever growing animal babies. Hubby makes fun and says he is going to turn me into Hoarders the tv show.

First is Lola

She was left behind by a family that lived in our cul de sac. She is the most loving affectionate kitty. That is for a kitty that lives outside. She is makes friend where ever she goes (dog, cat and human). Most of the neighbors have welcomed her. She gets fed by at least 3 houses including us. She is sneaky to. One of our neighbors found her coming down her stairs one after noon and said Lola how did you get in. We bring her in during the winter and anytime there is a storm.

Next is Skittles.

She is my oldest sons cat. Poor thing has allergies and sleeps most of the day. When she meows she sounds like Gary the snail from Sponge Bob. Oh and does she snore.

She likes to sit like a human. But is so beautiful when she is asleep. She showed up at our back door on day cried for three days straight. Till hubby gave in, on the third day it started raining. He couldn't bare to see she suffer anymore.

This is Sushi AKA Bad Kitty

She is my princess. She has been with me for a long time. My princess is the only kitty allowed to sleep in the room with Hubby and I.

Now we welcome our big baby Charles Meowington.

What can I say he was found in our cul de sac hungry and lost. He was so tiny he would suckle on our fingers to comfort himself. Oh and at 2 1/2 ft long he still does.

He loves to lay in drawers. We even have baby locks on the kitchen cabinet because him.

Sammy loves to go on trips, car rides and even thinks she is cat. Well she was raised by them.

He is so loving purrs non stop. He was found at our neighbors house and the kids brought it home. They were to find it a home. Guess they did ours. lol

I must admit, I know better than to book us for two birthday parties in one day. Hubby and I felt like we had gone out to a club and then a rave after that. With that said both parties were great. One was at the Live Oak City Park. The other was a Chuck E Cheese. Duran had never been there but he had seen the commercials on TV. He was so excited to go.

Live Oak Park has a great play area.

As you can see even the big kids got into the act.

Sometimes I wonder if poor Duran doesnt end up scared by his sisters treating him like their dress up doll.

Halfway thru he got tired and needed some time out time.

All better now, even better when dad plays too.

Then dad needed a break.

See mom made the cupcake disappear. Oh and dad took a nap. lol

Father Day Paintball

Paintball is one of my hubbys favorite things to do. This year Tryni played Dad was so proud of his girls and his big Man Raymond. Hopefully in 5 years he will have Duran out there too.

My to men very different but so much alike. We were out at the field till midnight. Dad and I had not stayed up so late in a looooong time. We so slept in the next morning.

Summer camping trip

Camping, I have enjoyed for so many years. I remember going as a child with my parents. The best times were when things didnt go as planned. When it rained and our tent started taking in water. So we piled in the van and slept like wet sardines. This year was one of our longest camping trips, in tents. Four days of fun, some crying and complaining but enough of my husband. lol

Summer is here....

Summer has just begun but that has not stopped the extreme heat and drought. I have honestly forgotten the smell and feel of rain. We are now in Stage 2 water restrictions. Which means I only can water once a week between 8am-10am or 8pm-10pm. My day falls on Friday. Due to my address ends with a 9.

Even though its been in the upper 90's and sometimes 100 degree weather. Its has not stopped us from enjoying the outdoors. Sunscreen and water are our must haves when we go out.

Tryni and I got up early for this. It was a go green festival. Free trees were given out.

I have to include my oldest daughters performance in her school talent show. I was so proud and amazed. The song she is singing is Misguided Ghost.

Charlie likes to sleep and relax in My oldest daughters drawers.

I have to report my youngest daughter has made it to 6th grade. Junior high here we come.

Nervous for her end of the year 5th grade dance.

Durans favorite seat in the house. I am amazed at how quickly he as learned how to us the laptop. He even knows how to google and click on history to look up a website he was on before. I must add that he even showed me how to use the xbox to watch movies.

My girls had events on the same day at the same time too. I wish I could have cloned myself but I had to choose one. I went to my oldest daughters talent show and ALL the boys went to my youngest daughters track meet.

There was some crying from Duran.

Dad rushed from work to make sure he could cheer for his baby girl and even got in a nice nap I was told.

Farmers Market

Every Saturday between 9 and lets say 2ish the Pearl Brewery area has a Farmers Market. It also has many shops. It is located by the river walk.

Hubby had to pose for my pics due to it was only he and I. We have decided to do this morning outing once a month.

I must say the landscape is beautiful.

There are also plenty of places to eat at, from mexican to seafood.

Smack in the middle is the Culinary Institute of America in San Antonio.

Here are some pics of my yard have been working overtime to keep everything alive due to the drought.

I decided to plant strawberries and parsley in with the hibiscus.

In this one I have Bougainvillea and a small Mt. Laurel.

Here I have Jasmine growing up against the house, hoping it will take over the gazebo.

Small garden, I have onion, banana peppers, flamingo peppers, serrano peppers, basil, oregano and rosemary.

Mothers Day always comes with mixed emotions. On one had I celebrate my life as a mom and having one of the greatest moms growing up. I have tried so hard to follow in her footsteps. My mom was the life of the party with her corky laugh and her love for life. No matter how hard I pushed she equally pushed back. Never letting me forget I was always loved and life is precious. I love you Mommy.

Easter was fun

Fiesta and Easter are always fun here in San Antonio. This post is full of pics. This year we sold snacks and cascarones at the Battle of the Flowers Parade.

Duran was so excited when he saw the balloon. Then he saw it up close and it became a scary moment.

All I can say is GO SPURS GO!!!

I was really impressed by this cowboy.

Lola and Duran love to hang out outside. Sit on chairs and just soak in the sun.

We made 50 dozen cascarones. We sold some and used some for Durans Birthday Party. The rest were for Easter. Duran was able to decorate this year. Let me explain the pic below. Duran drew on the egg shell. It was his very first one, so it was special. He put it on table and it rolled off. I glued humpty dumpty back together again.

Then Duran and Evan went for a ride.

We partied till the sun went down. Confetti and egg shells all over the yard, in our hair, clothes and places I can't mention. We Bar-B-Que'd ribs, fajita, sausage, corn and jalapenos. Neighbors brought potato salad, cupcakes and strawberry short cake. You name it we had it.

Durans 4th Birthday

Had so much to do before the party. I made a Perry the Platypus pinata. Girls and I made cascarones(eggs filled with confetti).

Lackland Airfest 2010

My Husband love going to airshows. We are lucky we live near so many military bases. In our area there is Randolph afb, Lackland afb, Kelly afb, lets not forget Fort Sam, Brook City-Base, Camp Bullis. Right smack in the middle is Brooke Army Medical Center.

Every two years we get to enjoy an airshow at one of the bases. This year we went to Lackland AFB/Kelly.

This is the view we saw as we walked to the entrance. I do have to admit security was not as tight as previous years. One year we went to Randolph AFB even small children aged 2 were being patted down.

Now we are in line to get in. The wait time was 45min.

Trick or Treat

We started out October by taking all our Halloween decor from the attic.

Duran being silly wearing an old Blues Clues costume.

Duran decided he would help too.

We carved out pumpkins as Jack and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas. We roasted the pumpkin seeds.

Tryni and Duran were Ladybugs this year. We could not convince Duran to be anything else he had his mind set. Duran costume cost me the most. I bought him the tights and wings along with the head band. Oh and the shirt, well it was sold at the dollar store as a skirt. I cut some holes on the sides and made it a top. Total $ 12

I made Tryni's wings out of car shades. Just sewed fabric on to it. Bought some black tights, used a blouse that was givin to her by a neighbor. Created a bow for the front and use a hairband crimped some wire to it and glued some fuzzy balls to it. Total cost $5

We went to the San Antonio Zoo Boo this year.

Taty made her own costume from old clothes she sewed together. I taught her how to use the sewing machine and she got it done. Tights were given to her by a neighbor. I found some long socks for a dollar. Bought white face paint and red hair paint. Dad bought her Jack cause he loves her. Total cost $5 for costume. Jack was bought by dad so doesnt count in the budget but he cost $17

Having fun at the zoo. Kids collected the candy and enjoyed the zoo at night.

We started off at Central Market HEB. One of our favorite places to shop at.

Duran loves all the free samples.

The following pics were taken at Brakenridge Park right next to the San Antonio Zoo.

Duran loves feeding the ducks and watching the train go by.

I will admit I always get scared when they both get near the water.

Brakenridge has a fairly large creek running thru it. You can find different types of ducks, fish and turtles.

We were able to taste foods from different Latin countries. (Columbia, Mexico, Cuba, etc.)

I had a taco the pastor with a Fanta orange soda. MMMMMM! (Marinated pork on a flour tortilla and some cilatro.)

Honey couldn't resist.

Duran loves umbrellas and sun hats but Mom forgot the sun hats.

All the different booths. Along with food they had different snacks, candies and crafts from all the countries.

As you can tell honey had himself some Columbian food. MMM! Oh, and some Aguas Frescas.

They had watermelon, melon, pineapple and lemonade.

I had to include the pic below if you notice closely there is a removable BarBQue pit attached to the trailer hitch of the truck. I want one. I know I dont own a truck but Im sure I can manage to hook it to my Van. LOL!

Back at Brakenridge Park

Duran noticed there were people in the water. He so wanted to get wet. Normally cars are allowed to drive thru there but due to the large amount of people attending the festival and the zoo along with the park it was closed. SO, everyone took advantage and got their feet wet.

I told him if dad says yes you can go. So he asked and then he ran.

Dad did not want to get wet but he had a compromise for him.

Then mom came and we got our feet wet.

And our shorts.

Duran had a great time.

At the end is when Duran noticed his butt was wet. But well worth it.

I do have to ad that at one of the pavillions there was a set up for a wedding with clear Chritmas lights. Lit white paper bags lined up the stairs and white candles on the tables. Sorry didnt take any pics thought it would just be rude to intrude but a beatiful area for weddings, parties and reunions.
